Orthodox Advent Wreath
Orthodox Advent Wreath
An advent wreath, especially designed for use during the Orthodox Nativity fast! With more candles than the traditional “western” advent wreath, this wreath has a candle for the first day of the Nativity fast (November 15 on the new calendar), each of the Sundays of the Nativity fast, and the candle in the center is to be lit on the feast of the Nativity. A joyous and beautiful tradition to start with your family and enjoy together year after year, as we light our candles with hope and expectation for the birth of Christ!
These log slices are from the Balm of Gilead tree, and sliced and kiln dried by a small business in Maine, USA. Balm of Gilead was a rare perfume used medicinally, that was mentioned in the Bible, and named for the region of Gilead, where it was produced. The expression stems from William Tyndale's language in the King James Bible of 1611, and has come to signify a universal cure in figurative speech. Please note that as these are log slices, there will be size and shape irregularities. Each advent wreath is unique!
The design was laser engraved and holes for the candles drilled by Andrew Ritchey of Orthodox Design Co. Please note that the holes are slightly larger than the candles but melting the bottom of the candle before putting it in the hole will enable it to stand straight.
