ABOUT ST. BRIGID
When St. Brigid was a young girl, she loved to give to those less fortunate than her. Seeing someone in need, she felt she had to help them however she could. This constant giving became quite a problem for her father, who wasn’t very nice, so he tried to sell her to the king! The king came to see St. Brigid before he bought her and there she was giving away her father’s precious sword! The king refused to take St. Brigid. Glory to God - because she was soon after tonsured a nun. She loved God so much that she worked tirelessly to establish a monastery on land given to her by the King of Leinster.
St. Brigid’s monastery made money to sustain their monastery by making and selling goods. They were especially well known for their blueberry jam, which they made from blueberries that grew nearby.
She is commemorated on Feb 1 (NC) or 14 (OC).
